'The Look of Faith' explores artists' poetic responses to ideas and expressions of religious and spiritual faith.
It brings together a beautiful body of works primarily from the Gallery's Collection by Australian, International, Asian and Pacific artists.
The display includes an intimate series of images of saints and martyrs dating from the fourteenth to the seventeenth centuries.
Other works from this period explore the 'mystery and the passion' of Christian faith through depictions of Christ, his suffering and the promise of salvation.
Addressing a more mythical and secular dimension of faith and poetry of spirit are contemporary works by Australian and international artists such as Judith Wright, Bea Maddock, William Robinson, Michael Riley, Joseph Jurra Tjapaltjarri, Colin McCahon and Santiago Bose.
